Speed: does Surfshark deliver?
Surfshark uses WireGuard natively, which translates into solid throughput. On our 1 Gbps fibre line in Europe, here is what we measured:
- France server: 800 Mbps down, 750 Mbps up — less than 10% loss
- Germany server: 780 Mbps, very low latency
- US server (New York): 550 Mbps, 85 ms latency
- Japan server: 320 Mbps, 220 ms latency
That is slightly below NordVPN (850 Mbps in Europe) but well above CyberGhost. For 4K streaming, downloading, or gaming within Europe, performance is more than enough. We did notice more pronounced fluctuations in Asia — worth keeping in mind if you frequently connect to Asian servers.
