Privacy and jurisdiction: the Swiss advantage

Let us start with what sets ProtonVPN apart. Switzerland is not a member of the European Union or the 5, 9, or 14 Eyes surveillance alliances. The country has strict data protection laws, and Swiss authorities cannot compel a company to log user activity. This is a structural advantage that neither NordVPN (Panama) nor Surfshark (Netherlands) can fully claim.

ProtonVPN's no-log policy has been audited by Securitum, a European cybersecurity firm. The report confirms that the service stores no connection logs, no IP addresses, and no browsing history. In practice, Secure Core adds an extra network hop, which increases latency by 30 to 80 ms depending on the route. For regular browsing or streaming, the difference is imperceptible. Speed and protocols

NetShield is ProtonVPN's ad, tracker, and malware blocker. It works at the DNS level, meaning it acts before your browser even loads the page. Three levels are available:

ProtonVPN apps are available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and Android TV. The interface is clean and modern, featuring an interactive server map that lets you visualise locations and real-time load. You can create custom connection profiles (for example, "US Streaming" or "Secure Core Sweden") for one-click access.

The Linux client is one of the few on the market with a full graphical interface — a genuine advantage for Linux users often stuck with command-line tools.
