Shared hosting plans: Perso, Pro, Performance

The classic trap: introductory prices are attractive, but renewal prices can nearly double. This is common across the industry, and OVHcloud is no exception. The Perso plan is very limited with only one site allowed. The Performance range, with dedicated resources (vCPU, reserved RAM), approaches VPS-level performance without the system administration overhead.

OVHcloud VPS: the sweet spot

This is arguably where OVHcloud shines brightest. OVHcloud VPS instances are available with multiple Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, AlmaLinux) and even Windows Server (at extra cost). Each VPS includes anti-DDoS protection and full root access. Scalability is a strong point: you can resize your VPS upward without reinstalling.

Dedicated servers: OVHcloud's DNA

OVHcloud built its reputation on dedicated servers. The Eco range (formerly Kimsufi/So you Start) offers physical servers starting at €5.99/month — an unbeatable price for dedicated hardware. The Advance and Scale ranges step up with latest-generation AMD EPYC and Intel Xeon processors, NVMe drives, and up to 2 TB of RAM.

Hardware infrastructure is OVHcloud's historic strength. The company assembles its own servers in its own factories, allowing it to control costs and offer prices lower than AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for bare metal. Datacenters: Roubaix, Strasbourg, and the global network

OVHcloud operates datacenters in France (Roubaix, Strasbourg, Gravelines), but also in Canada (Beauharnois), Germany (Frankfurt, Limburg), the UK (London), Poland (Warsaw), Australia (Sydney), and Singapore. This global presence is a tangible advantage for international projects.

The Strasbourg datacenter fire (SBG2) in March 2021 remains a defining event. Thousands of servers were destroyed, and clients without external backups lost their data permanently. OVHcloud has since strengthened its safety protocols and redundancy measures, but the incident seriously damaged trust. Anti-DDoS protection: standard across all plans

OVHcloud includes infrastructure-level anti-DDoS protection on all its offerings — shared, VPS, and dedicated. The VAC system ("vacuum") absorbs and filters malicious traffic in real time, without any action on your part. This is a notable advantage, especially since many hosts charge extra for this type of protection.

In practice, the protection works well against classic volumetric attacks (UDP flood, SYN flood). For application-layer attacks (Layer 7), additional server-side configuration is still required.

Domain names: a competitive registrar

OVHcloud is also one of the largest European domain registrars, with competitive pricing on standard extensions (.fr, .com, .net, .eu). The .fr starts at €6.99/year and .com at €10.99/year. DNS management is comprehensive, and the interface allows easy configuration of A, CNAME, MX, TXT, and SRV records.

The advantage of having domain and hosting with the same provider: simplified DNS configuration. The downside: if something goes wrong with OVHcloud, everything is with the same vendor. For critical sites, diversifying providers remains a best practice.

Technical support: the Achilles heel

This is OVHcloud's weak point, and the subject comes up consistently in customer reviews. Standard support works through tickets, with response times varying from a few hours to several days depending on complexity and workload. Phone support is reserved for premium plans (Business or Enterprise), which excludes the vast majority of shared hosting customers.

Management interface: the OVH Manager

OVHcloud uses its own management panel (the "Manager") rather than cPanel or Plesk. The interface is powerful and covers domain management, hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, cloud services, and billing — all in one place. The flip side: the interface can be bewildering for non-technical users. Navigating between different product areas (Web Cloud, Bare Metal, Public Cloud) is not always intuitive. OVHcloud has modernized its Manager in recent years, but the learning curve remains steeper than consumer-focused hosts.

OVHcloud and WordPress

OVHcloud offers one-click WordPress installation modules on its shared hosting plans. The Performance plans, with dedicated resources, deliver good WordPress performance.
